Frequently Asked Questions
How do you make a banner?
Banners come in many formats but will most often be made from PVC vinyl. Banner vinyl is compatible with eco-solvent, UV, and resin inks, making banner printing an excellent addition to your print portfolio. It's also possible to create banner designs using print and cut to add to the design features.
Banners will usually be seen and read from a distance so the material will need to be cut and the artwork designed to a suitable size. Once printed, you may want to add grommets (metal rings) or hemming to reinforce the edges of the banner. This will make it easier to hang or attach the banner as needed.
How long do banners last?
Typically, outdoor banners last between 3 and 5 years with some reaching 7 to 10 years if installed correctly and printed using high-quality inks. Speak to your material manufacturer or dealer to find the best solution for your customers.
What file is best for banner printing?
PDF and EPS files are the most flexible format and are compatible with most RIP platforms as they can contain bitmap and vector information. TIFF files can also be used to reliably retain image quality, but their large size can make them challenging to share and can cause issues with slower computers.
What is a typical banner size?
An advantage of banner printing is that there is no set size and is usually determined by the space you have available and what it needs to say. The width you can print depends on the size of your printer, while the length is only limited by the amount of material on the roll (although print accuracy can suffer over longer distances).
The most popular banner size is 3 m x 1 m.
