Creating a Special Space to Experience Japanese Culture with Three-dimensional Wallpaper
The Embassy of Japan in Lithuania | Lithuania
The Embassy of Japan in Lithuania wanted to upgrade a wall of the lecture room to introduce a Japanese tea ceremony and calligraphy to teenagers that would help them better experience a Japanese atmosphere.
Before
- Before the renovation, it was an ordinary, blank and flat painted wall.
After
- A stylized image of traditional Japanese garden, Karesansui, was used for the design. Although a sense of seasonality is important in Japanese culture, the room must be used all year round regardless of the season. The design does not bore regular visitors but enables them to enjoy Japanese atmosphere every time they visit. It also brings depth and light to the room, giving a three-dimensional feel and tactile effect. All of these offer visitors an unforgettable experience which appeals to their senses. During kimono lectures, children in yukata often use this wall as the background for a photo session and they highly appreciate it.
