Mase Press: Revolutionising Label Printing with Roland DG Printers
Mase Press | Italy
Italy's packaging industry has defied economic challenges, showcasing exceptional resilience compared to other sectors. In recent years, it hasn't just recovered but surged ahead, largely due to the strength of companies specialising in food packaging and luxury goods. According to GlobalData, the Italian packaging market reached a valuation of 82.5 billion units in 2022. Projections indicate a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) exceeding 1% from 2022 to 2027.
“Brands now recognise packaging as more than a mere shell; it's a powerful tool for cultivating customer loyalty. This initial impression speaks volumes about the enclosed product, and Italy's packaging sector is leveraging this crucial concept to its advantage”, says Andrea Forante, Owner of Mase Press.
In this ever-evolving landscape of Italian graphic design, packaging, and printing, Mase Press has emerged as a frontrunner, specialising in crafting customised and exclusive labels for a range of food and drink companies.
It all started with a label
Initially focused on label printing, Mase Press quickly expanded its horizons, aiming to accompany its customers in the process of identity modelling through a vision of providing an 'all-out' suite of graphics services, including the creation of logos, prototypes, brochures, posters, websites, and packaging.
A pivotal turning point for Mase Press was the integration of Roland DG printers into their workflow. The first foray was the Roland DG VersaCAMM VS-420 in 2011, which equipped the print shop with metallic and white inks and allowed them to delve into customised label printing, even for smaller quantities. The range of colours, vibrancy, and gloss finishes offered by Roland DG printers set them apart from competitors, solidifying the choice to stick with Roland for subsequent machines.
A decade of growth powered by Roland DG
The game-changer arrived with the Roland DG VersaUV LEC2-330, a roll-to-roll UV printer. This acquisition transformed label prototypes into tangible products, providing an all-in-one solution that could print, cut, die-cut, perforate, varnish, and emboss on a single device, on demand. Particularly, the wine sector proved receptive to these services, valuing the exclusivity and customisation Mase Press could offer.
The introduction of decal ink and the subsequent adaptation of the LEC2-330 with this printing mode marked a significant breakthrough. This upgrade allowed Mase Press to incorporate hot foils, adding to the spectrum of finishes typically seen on market labels - and providing Mase Press customers with exclusive finishes that allow them to stand out.
Currently, Mase Press boasts a strong lineup of Roland DG printers - the TrueVIS VG2-540 for commercial prints, the VersaUV LEF-200 for object customisation and prototyping, and the VersaUV LEC2-330 for label prototyping and small batch production, demonstrating their commitment to diverse printing needs.
Roland DG fuelling the future
The integration of Roland DG printers has not only expanded Mase Press’s capabilities but also propelled sales growth. The initial VersaCAMM VS-420 kickstarted their journey, with subsequent purchases contributing to a remarkable 30% increase in turnover. Such success has sparked considerations for further expansion, possibly adding another UV printer to meet the escalating demand for prototyping.
Future-gazing, Mase Press Director, Andrea Forante said “Looking ahead, at Mase Press we remain optimistic. In a world brimming with prospects, Mase Press, in tandem with Roland DG, stands poised for continued success. Our story is not just one of innovation and adaptability but a testament to the symbiotic relationship between cutting-edge technology and unwavering commitment to excellence.”
