You don't have to be big to be a Roland Hero: Max Model uses the colours and textures achievable with VersaUV printers to create highly detailed - and very small - models.
It's the small details that make Max Model a big success. Based in the beautiful surroundings of Florence, Italy, the business makes model vehicles featuring very small-scale decals.
The work is so minute - and the level of precise detail required so great - that Max Model's owners Massimo Marchi and Letizia Mattei have to use a magnifying glass to ensure their prints are perfect.

"The Roland VersaUV's ability to print UV gloss in layers to create textures means that we have succeeded in creating a product that we call 3D. It's a great detail that, combined with its versatility and reliability, has allowed us to become a leader in the modelling industry."

"We are technical artisans: we reproduce reality in miniature, realising every graphic aspect of the object to scale," says Letizia.
Max Model take orders from individuals all over the world and is developing a supply chain with retailers. Massimo and Letizia create each model from pattern to prototype, adding incredibly detailed decals as the final, essential touch.
The business began using a Roland eco-solvent printer/cutter with white and metallic ink options, but found an investment in a Roland VersaUV LEF printer could add an extra asset to the models. Its UV gloss inks can be printed in layers directly onto objects, building up tactile textures and incredible multifaceted designs.
"The application I'm most proud of is to have developed 3D prints using the UV inks, helped by the machine's ability to support material thickness of up to 100mm," says Letizia. "We have succeeded in creating a product that we call 3D.
"Its versatility and reliability combined with absolute precision is what’s help enable us to become a leader in the modelling industry – especially in small-format 3D."
Massimo adds: "The simplicity of use, the dedicated software and the incredible detail offered by our Roland printers allows us to maintain a very high quality. It helps us to distinguish ourselves from anyone else in the industry.
"But not to be underestimated, too, is the potential for experimentation, both in the versatility of the machines and to share ideas with other Roland users."
Max Model has big plans for its small products – and the Italian specialist's success is all in the detail.
